I hate to say it but you’re not going to produce the best content on the web. Sure you may have some amazing articles but your competitors probably have some amazing articles as well. Today, I’m going to share a little known tip on how to use your competitors to rank even better on Google.
Link out to your competitors.
1. It benefits the reader
Do what’s best for them. If you do what’s best for your visitors it’ll help you grow not just because it’s building loyalty. Your readers will possibly recommend you to their friends.
2. It helps Google
This one benefit that most people don’t realise. When you link out to other websites especially competitors, it helps Google. Google understands what neighbourhood your website belongs in. It understands what your website is about and what your topically relevant towards. When they have this information they can rank you better.
It’s all about giving Google signals. So don’t just link up to your competitors but also link out to other web sites within your space, even if they’re not direct competitors and they’re informational websites. Cite them because they have amazing information and they’ve done all this research. Don’t care if their products are somewhat similar to yours.
It shows Google hey your site isn’t just about your products and services. As you are linking out to everyone else within the space, so if they rank well as Google we should also rank you well as well. This is simply because you are linking out to them.
Best part is because you link to them, a lot of competitors actually even link back out to you. So as Google, they are highly likely to also rank you better because of back-links as well.
